The images in this album were taken on Star Island, New Hampshire, part of the Isles of Shoals. As both a former conferee (LOAS I) and a former Pelican (seasonal employee), I can honestly say it is my favorite place in the world. It is history and rugged beauty, it is wisps of ghosts and mystery. It is peace, serenity and your own God. Star Island is tradition, creativity and lifelong friends. It is deep thinkers and people who care deeply about the island, the world and each other.
It is my spirit's home.
I hope to attend a future Conference on the Arts.
These make beautiful gifts for your favorite winter-bound conferee or Pelican (or for yourself if you find yourself hearing gulls and ocean, taking 2 showers per week and going through Star withdrawal....).
AND, as if you needed any more reason to purchase, 50% of the profit from this album will be donated to the Star Island corporation!

Foggy Oceanic View
1st place, Artfest 2007
purchase info
Foggy Oceanic View was taken in July, 2006. The White Island lighthouse in the background was heavily damaged in a storm the following April. Many people ask if I digitally manipulated the color on this image. The answer is: very little. The day and the ocean were foggy and gray, as it can get on the islands, and the colorful windsock caught my attention as it was such a contrast to the grayness of the day, ocean, and the muted white and wood at the back of the Oceanic porch.

Star Island Sunset
purchase info
Star Island Sunset reminds me of evenings spent watching the sun go down at the "Sunset Lounge" on the rocks side of engineering as a Pel.
Super large wall print, magnet, notecards or mugs.
If you get a mug of this shot, black works best.
Sunset Reflection, below, is the reflection of the above
in the window of the Oceanic Hotel.

Gosport Harbor
purchase info
Gosport Harbor captures that eerie, 'lost in time' feeling prevalent while on the island. Click purchase info to view image finished in a white border.

Misty Blue Field
purchase info
The fog was so thick early in the morning when I took Misty Blue Field, I could barely see Appledore, and could only catch a glimpse of Smuttynose every now and then. What caught my eye the most were the clouds.
Early Morning Fog
purchase info
Early Morning Fog was taken on the same morning as Misty Blue Field. I love the eerie visibility of the cabins on Smuttynose, the gull and the glowing light at the end of the dock. Great wall print. If you get larger than 8x10, Smuttynose is slightly more visible.

Gulls on Shack
purchase info
I love the texture of the paint in this shot. 'Shack parties' .....ah, youth!
This shot makes a great off-beat wall print, or a cool magnet. Guy Pels, if this was your summer 'home', you might want a mousepad of this.
Chapel Lanterns
purchase info
Chapel Lanterns was taken from inside, through the old glass, looking out onto the porch at chapel time. Hand-held shot.
If you get a mug of this shot, black works best.

Sunrise in the Chapel
purchase info
Sunrise in the Chapel is one of my favorite Star shots. So peaceful.
These make lovely notecards as well as beautiful prints. If you go with a print, I'd recommend 11x14 or 8x10.

Tidal Pool Hermit Crab
purchase info
I like the movement of the water around the hermit crab (this was taken through the water). Swim, swim, little hermie!

Evening
purchase info
Relaxing and socializing in the summerhouse in the evening. Star's history is one part of what makes it so special; its' natural beauty is another part; and the people are the final piece.

Gosport Harbor Hermit Crabs
purchase info
Hermit crabs in cold, clear Gosport Harbor.
I love the way the water rolls in smooth, fat ripples over the seaweed and crabs (who scurried out with the tide en masse - a fascinating sight).
